New Stats: HostGator Registered Domains July 13, 2010

When you are looking for the best web host provider, there are lots of places you can go to get information. Several sites offer website hosting reviews that provide information about features and services, as well as reviews from customers. Other sites give you a web host ranking that lets you see how one host compares to some of their top competitors. But it may be even more helpful to watch a specific host over time. If you have a host in mind, such as HostGator, watching their daily changes in number of registered domains can tell you how many people are joining HostGator, as well as how many are leaving. If you notice a lot of people leaving a specific host and don't see a lot of new domains being added, you may start to question how happy their customers are with the services provided. But if you see that a lot of people are signing up and not many are leaving, this is a good indication that the host is meeting their customers' needs. That said, let's look at the new stats for HostGator.

Our HostGator review of registered domain names:

New domains: 1,248
Transferred in domains: 1,581
Transferred out domains: 1,376
Deleted domains: 49
Net increase: 1,404
Total domain registrations on HostGator servers: 1,169,813

Just looking at the net increase, or total number of domains added today, tells us that HostGator is doing some pretty big business. Most of the top hosts are doing good to add more than 100 or 200 new domains per day. So to see HostGator adding more than 1,400 domains in a day, really does say a lot. But it is hard to tell long-term growth just by looking at the numbers from a day or two here and there. That is when the "Total domain registrations" number comes in handy. If you look at our previous reviews you can see that since April 4th of this year HostGator has added more than 152,000 new domains! That is a 13% overall gain in just the last 3 months!
