HostGator is a privately held company based in Houston, Texas. They provide shared, reseller, and dedicated web hosting services. HostGator was founded in 2002 by Brent Oxley in a dorm room at Florida Atlantic University. What started out as a small web hosting company with just three servers has grown into a world wide web hosting leader. According to the HostGator "about the company" page they now have more than 7,000 servers under management and over two million domains hosted by them.

Through our own observation of how HostGator operates as a company, we have found that they are really committed to the customer. Sure they want to be successful, but they don't do it at the cost of the customer. Of course they have to stay competitive in pricing and web hosting features but they also listen to what their customers want and need, then do their best to provide it. Everytime we have visited the HostGator twitter account or Facebook page we see staff members answering questions, replying to customer problems or inquiries and making sure that they are resolving any issues that arise.

But HostGator isn't all serious business, however; they make sure they have some fun too. In visiting their blog we found a post about a new member to the "HostGator tattoo club", where they actually paid someone $2,000 in gambling money and a trip to Las Vegas with Brent (HostGator founder) for tattooing the HostGator gator icon and words HostGator.com on his/her arm. They even conducted a poll asking if you would do the same for the price. The responses: 36 people said yes, 30 people no, and 21 said the price is not right! But then to show how dedicated they are to their customers and how important customer feedback is they offered $50 to a lucky winner; all you had to do to enter was reply to a ticket response letting them know how their customer service was on any support ticket you had submitted.
